Fomer WCBA President Elliott Sattler Appointed to Dept. 10, Second Judicial District Court

Governor Brian Sandoval appointed WCBA Past President (2010-11) to Dept. 10 following the retirement of Hon. Steve Elliott. Formal investiture is scheduled for Wednesday, April 24 at 3 p.m. in the County Chambers, 9th St. in Reno. WCBA members and the legal community are invited to attend.

Justice Kristina Pickering  Assumes Chief Justice Role

Justice Michael Cherry ended his term as Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice in January 2013. Former Washoe County Bar President Justice Kristina Pickering assumed the post in January. Chief Justice Pickering will represent Nevada’s courts at the 2013 Nevada Legislature.  She will serve as Chief Justice until January 2014. The Chief Justice is administrative head of the state’s legal system, speaking publicly for the Court and representing the Nevada Judiciary nationally.

Voluntary Good Practices Guidance to Combat Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing

The ABA Task Force on Gatekeeper Regulation and the Profession has worked with other entities to develop voluntary good practices guidance for lawyers to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.  The Task Force has concerns about how mandatory gatekeeper provisions might affect confidential attorney-client relationships and other issues.  Below are two publications from the ABA Task Force.
